Vote Jessica Hegge for State Representative
Let's Move Forward Together
Hello, I'm Jessica
WHERE I COME FROM
I am a sixth generation South Dakotan and come from a long line of farmers and ranchers. I grew up in rural Douglas County, South Dakota on the family farm where I was taught the value of hard work, responsibility, empathy, and sacrifice. What I learned from caring for the land, livestock, and family are lessons that I practice every day.
I am a mother of three small children and married to Casey, who is a small business owner and operator. We live in rural Charles Mix County, outside of Platte, South Dakota. I am a first-generation attorney who provides legal services to rural and under served communities. I am passionate about supporting our rural communities, farmers/ranchers, small business owners, and schools.
A THRIVING CAREER
I am an attorney in general practice. I graduated from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 2012. While in law school I received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award and the Dean's Certificate for Outstanding Performance for the study of Legislation. I am a member of the South Dakota State Bar in good standing. I have been practicing law at Larson Law PC in Chamberlain, South Dakota since 2012.
Practicing law in small communities and rural areas is my calling. My main areas of practice include real estate, criminal, family, estate, business, and corporate law. I have served as a Deputy State's Attorney for Brule County and Buffalo County since 2012.
I believe strongly in public service and hard work.
Let's move forward together to improve District 21 and South Dakota.
I believe that every child deserves a quality education and that education is key to future success. Our educators are invaluable and irreplaceable. I will listen to our educators about their needs and work within the legislature to make effective changes.
Agriculture is the lifeline of our State. I will work towards solutions that benefit our farmers and ranchers and will help them in this difficult time. I support mandatory country of origin labeling (mCOOL) and other measures that ensure that South Dakota’s farmers and ranchers get a fair price for their products.
I will work towards expanding Medicaid to close the gap for South Dakotans who do not qualify under our current Medicaid standards, but also do not qualify under the Affordable Care Act. I will work to improve mental health, suicide prevention, and addiction service options and improve program availability in South Dakota’s rural communities.
